Your First Orthodontic Visit

What To Expect

What To Expect

Orthodontic treatment is a significant investment and has life-long implications. For this reason, Dr. McElhinney and Dr. Breha invite both parents or a spouse to attend the first consultation so that they can answer your questions and help you make a well-informed decision.

Upon your arrival, you will be welcomed by our administrative staff who will assist you with the check-in process and will then notify our new patient coordinator that you have arrived. One team member will escort you to a consultation room for your first visit with Dr. McElhinney or Dr. Breha.

At your first visit, a panoramic x-ray will be taken. This diagnostic x-ray along with a comprehensive clinical evaluation will provide fundamental information necessary for Dr. McElhinney or Dr. Breha to discuss your orthodontic needs and options.

During this visit, one of three outcomes will be determined:

  • Treatment is needed now.
  • Treatment is not needed at all.
  • Treatment will be needed, but the timing is such that it should be delayed until appropriate growth and development or tooth eruption has occurred.
